In Bakersfield this next fine Monday eve,
The pack shall gather — you better believe.
At six-thirty sharp the call goes “On-On!”
With “Just River” the hare, the hash is out.
Through a dusty Kern River bed,
He’ll sneak a trail for all to seek.
With flour-dots by creek and bend,
He leads the pack — around the bend.
We’ll scamper, skip, maybe even stroll,
Some at a jog, some nice and slow.
No stopwatch glows, no race to win —
This Hash’s aim: a laugh, a grin.
Past dry riverbeds with no mud in sight,
“Fuck the Hare!” all will shout just out of spite
Perhaps a “Beer Near” at the homeless camp near the bridge,
Sipping beer, or water as cold from a fridge.
At journey’s end, beneath cold fog’s glow,
We’ll circle up, faces covered that may not show
The joy of chase, the pack united —
All silly names and laughs delighted.
Bring shoes that you won’t mind getting dirty or wet,
See you at this Monday’s night Kern River trail,
Ask for the hare called “Just River” (for now)
A grin, a thirst, your mind reset —
Whether walker, runner, drinker, or not,
The Hash welcomes all — chaos and thought.
